Since ancient times storytelling has fascinated children. It is one of the most beautiful ways to preserve the culture and maintain records of the history of any civilization, indeed, its backbone. Moreover, moral stories instill virtues and help children to overcome their inhibitions. Listening to stories about diverse cultures broadens one’s horizons.
Keeping traditions alive is a living goal for Books en Beyond, and in an effort to nurture the art of reading and storytelling culminated in the birth of Afsana, the storytelling festival organized on April 27, 2019 at Radisson Blu, Faridabad. This was a unique venture, Faridabad’s first storytelling festival, where international bards and storytellers were invited to take the audience to the wondrous world of imagination. The biggest draw of the day was the coming together of some of the greatest and most talented literati in the world of children’s literature, such as Rituparna Ghosh, Deepa Kiran, Seema Wahi Mukherjee, Kapil Pandey, Nusrat and Rajesh under one roof. They shared valuable tips with the visitors on reading, writing, along with an insight on art, cartoons, caricature, calligraphy coupled with music.Indeed, Radisson Blu resonated with the sound of happy voices and indulgent adults who were alike taken to a world of imagination, innocence and pure happiness.
The festival experienced a huge footfall of around 1500 people including children, parents, grandparents, various school principals and numerous dignitaries. District schools such as DAV, Delhi Public School, Greater Faridabad, Manaskriti School, Shiv Nadar and Eicher School participated in this interactive and engaging event with great enthusiasm. With a variety of activities to suit every palate and for each age group, it was a special day out for everyone.
